Sustainability & Ethics
At Moonface Clothing I aim to produce the most luxurious ethical and sustainable products that I possibly can while maintaining the unique aesthetic that make my designs special. In every part of my creative process, from design development, through production, marketing and distribution I am aiming to minimise my negative impact on the environment and ensure the ethical treatment of the people in my supply chain. This is a journey for me and will always be a work in progress but I am committed to continuing to make my research and improvement in this area a top priority.
I care deeply about the state of the world and my impact on the environment and with each new collection I am trying to improve as much as possible. The fashion industry on a whole is responsible for a great deal of harm and as a business that produces physical products to sell, I will never be able to be completely environmentally sustainable but there are ways to be more responsible. There are many sustainable practices that I already have in place and many more that I am aiming for, and there are always new ways to improve and in this respect I plan to be continuously evolving my approach.
I am now working with One Tree Planted to plant one tree for every order! Trees are one of the best tools we have in removing carbon pollution from our atmosphere and supporting the environment. You can read more about One Tree Planted here.
MY PRIORITIES:
- Minimising Negative Environmental Impact through sustainable practices
- Offsetting to remain Climate Positive
- Ethical Treatment of all Workers in our Supply Chain
WHAT I'VE DONE SO FAR:
MINIMISING NEGATIVE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
- All mailers are compostable (made from corn)
- I use minimal packaging and only what is absolutely necessary
- All my cards are printed on recycled paper card
- I use Organic cotton and other sustainable materials wherever possible
- Minimise wastage by designing patterns for most efficient fabric use
- Researching into sourcing more sustainable fabrics for 2025
- All products that are not suitable for sale ie samples and damaged goods are upcycled or sold at a discount
- I do not use animal fur, feathers or leather in any of my products
- I have significantly reduced the amount of synthetic materials I work with and currently our usage is less than 2% as the spandex element in some of our fabrics.
OFFSETTING TO REMAIN CLIMATE POSITIVE
- offset emissions each year to remain Climate Positive
ETHICAL TREATMENT OF ALL WORKERS IN MY SUPPLY CHAIN
- I am intentional when selecting my manufacturers - choosing only small businesses who share my values and ethics
- Ensure that statutory minimum wage is adhered to in my supply chain
- Yearly visits and regular contact with my workshop and suppliers
- Ensure that all workers are of a legal working age and are treated fairly
- Focus on building long term relationships with suppliers and working together to improve standards
Currently I am trying to show more transparency in what I do to address these issues. I am committed to sharing more about this journey and I will be providing more updates to let you know how the process is developing so please stay connected here, through our newsletter and on social media!
What would you like me to be more transparent about in regards to this journey of sustainability?
